Mirrielees Circle Trail Update

Mirrielees Circle Trail

Under the guidance of Walter Mugdan of the Udalls Cove Preservation Committee, Great Neck Estates is partnering with him and several Eagle Scout candidates to develop the Mirrielees Circle Trail. This effort combines improvements to existing paths with the creation of new ones along Mirrielees Circle and around the pond in Pond Park. The Environmental Commission, along with the Mayor and Board of Trustees, envisions this space as a peaceful and welcoming retreat for residents to enjoy with their families and pets.

The first phase of the project was completed in December 2024 at the southeastern end of the trail, thanks to Eagle Scout candidate Nick Tonorezos and his dedicated team from Boy Scouts of America Troop 71.

In late spring 2025, Eagle Scout candidates Chris Katsoulis and Nic Katsoulis, also with Troop 71, completed the next two phases. The trail now extends roughly 2,000 linear feet, forming a continuous path from the southeastern end of Mirrielees Circle to the foot of Pine Drive. This section includes stairs along steeper terrain and a wooden footbridge crossing a small stream.

Phase 4, scheduled for 2026, will add roughly 700 linear feet, extending the trail from Pine Drive to the foot of Laurel Drive. Once Phase 5 is complete, the trail will provide an unbroken path from the southeastern end of Mirrielees Circle to the shoreline at Udalls Cove. The trail will pass through Pond Park, continue to Pine Drive, and extend to Juniper Drive. When finished, the trail will measure about three—fifths of a mile end to end. NOTE: The segment linking Phases 1 and 3 — from Mirrielees Circle to Pond Park — predates the Scout—led effort.

A big thank you to the following Eagle Scouts from Troop 71 who carried out the first four phases of the trail in the Village of Great Neck Estates:

  • Phase 1: Nick Tonorezos — 600 foot new trail parallel to Mirrielees Circle (Fall 2024)
  • Phase 2: Chris Katsoulis — 400 foot new trail parallel to Mirrielees Circle, and wooden footbridge over stream (Spring 2025)
  • Phase 3: Nicolas Katsoulis — 400 foot new trail from Pond Park to Pine Drive, and wooden stairs on two seep segments, and stabilization of existing trail adjacent to pond (Spring 2025)
  • Phase 4: Max Tonorezos — 400+ foot new trail from Pine Drive towards Juniper Drive, and installation of split rail fence adjacent to private residence (Fall 2025)

Please enjoy this trail with your family and dogs!
